Our periodontist is experienced in managing impacted teeth through a procedure known as orthodontic tooth exposure. To expose the impacted tooth, our periodontist will first remove the gum tissue covering the tooth. In some cases, this simple exposure is enough to allow the tooth to erupt naturally over time. However, if further intervention is needed, we will bond an orthodontic attachment to the exposed tooth. This attachment is connected to a small chain, often made of gold, and a rubber band. This process of moving the tooth can take several months to a year, as it is essential to apply the force slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the tooth or surrounding structures. Once the tooth has been moved into its correct position, our periodontist will evaluate the health of the surrounding gum tissue.
